Abstract

Bacterial meningitis is a serious disease which shows various symptoms, and there are various predisposing factors and causative organisms. Among these, Staphylococcus aureus meningitis is an uncommon disease, most of which are hospital-acquired infections that have appeared in neurosurgical patients. Here, we report a first case of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus meningitis with lumbosacral subdural abscess after acupuncture, presenting with back pain and fever, followed by acute severe headache. The patient showed good clinical outcome after antibiotic therapy with ceftriaxone and vancomycin, and surgical drainage. Acupuncture therapy should be taken into consideration as a cause of bacterial meningitis and spinal infection in patients with severe headache, fever, and back pain.
